JAVA SOFTWARE ENGINEER/DEVELOPER

(Local Washington DC Candidates ONLY)

 

Barquin International is seeking a candidate who meets the following requirements for a Software Engineer/Application Developer (JAVA):

 

Work Location:  Suitland, MD

U.S. Department of Commerce Security clearance will be required.

 

Security Requirements:

The candidate needs to be able to pass the standard background investigation for government work and must have been and authorized to work in the United States for at least 2 years preceding the application.  Citizenship not required.

 

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• Consult with analysts and end-users to understand and elaborate business requirements and propose technical solutions.
• Identify and develop prototypes to address critical requirements (both functional and non-functional)
• Design applications using OO development methodologies and design patterns
• Implement application design using component models and Object-Oriented languages (Java).
• Develop technical specifications using standard modeling techniques.
• Provide technical leadership and direction to junior developers in implementing technical solutions
• Define technical standards; evaluate alternative protocols, tools and standards.
• Conduct root cause analysis and resolve production problems
• Develop estimates for design and implementation level of effort
• Report status on the development work

 

Qualifications:

• Significant experience in Object-oriented Analysis and Design, use of standard modeling techniques, design patterns, and UML.
• Experience with front-end Java development, converting mock-ups into JSPs, JSF components, Cascading-Style Sheets, Yahoo Toolkit components with JSON and AJAX.
• Experience with developing application components interacting with data base
• Experience with JavaScript and cross-browser support issues desired.
• Experience with Internationalization techniques desired.
• Knowledge of HTML 4.0 specification, DHTML, XML, XHTML standards.
• Experience with web application development using Java 5 (or greater) and Java EE technologies including: Spring, Servlets, JSP, JSON, AJAX, JDBC, JNDI, JMX
• Experience developing applications utilizing Endeca software desired.
• Experience with Rational Application Developer, WebSphere Application Developer, Rational Software Architect or Eclipse desired
• Experience with ClearCase/ClearQuest desired
• Experience working with analysts and end-users to interpret business requirements and propose , design and implement technical solutions
• Very strong teamwork, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills, ability to work well independently and as part of the team.
• Experience providing technical leadership and direction to less experienced members of the team
• Candidate should have 5-10 years of progressive experience in the area of Java based web application development and maintenance

 

Tools:

RSA 7.x, Websphere 7.x, Rational ClearCase/ClearQuest, Oracle 10g, TOAD

 

Industry Knowledge:

The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of: U.S. Census Bureau data, including demographic, economic, and geographic data

 

Work Environment:  Must be prepared to occasionally work late on weekday evenings (1+ times week) and occasional weekends. Must be able to work independently with customers. Must have excellent verbal/written communication skills.
