ETL DEVELOPER/CONVERSION SPECIALIST

 

Barquin International is seeking a candidate who meets the following requirements for an ETL Developer/Conversion Specialist:

 

Work Location:  Suitland, MD

U.S. Department of Commerce Security clearance will be required.

 

Security Requirements:

The candidate needs to be able to pass the standard background investigation for government work and must have been and authorized to work in the United States for at least 2 years preceding the application.  Citizenship not required.

 

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Consult with analysts, data providers and business operations staff to understand and elaborate data dissemination requirements and propose technical solutions
  • Identify and develop prototypes to address critical requirements (both functional and non-functional)
  • Collect and evaluate data product requirements from data providers and translate the requirements into technical specifications
  • Design, develop and implement Extract, Transformation and Load (ETL) processes, programs and scripts using structured software development method.
  • Develop data/metadata models and technical specifications using standard modeling techniques
  • Define technical standards; evaluate alternative protocols, tools and standards.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and resolve production problems
  • Create documentation of implemented ETL processes for knowledge sharing and hand-off
  • Develop estimates for design and implementation level of effort
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to junior developers in implementing technical solutions
  • Report status on the development work

 

Qualifications:

  • Significant experience with designing and implementing custom back-office ETL systems for complex and large size data applications
  • Significant experience with developing Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures and anonymous blocks for data conversion purposes
  • Experience with Perl and Korn shell scripting
  • Experience with enterprise-scale relational Data Models and Data Warehouse, including both relational and dimensional models and the use of standard data modeling tools, preferably ER/Win
  • Experience with diagramming and documentation requirements, including ERD, Data Dictionary, Data Flow Diagrams
  • Experience with configuration management practices and procedures
  • Experience with Oracle 10g
  • Experience with modeling and managing metadata
  • Knowledge and understanding of approaches for business intelligence, data marts
  • Demonstrated technical leadership in developing solutions for complex problems
  • Experience with providing technical leadership and direction to less experienced members of the team
  • Experience with modeling data using XML desired
  • Experience with Java APIs for XML - required
  • Experience with XML Schema, XSLT, XPath and XQuery, DOM and SAX parsers desired
  • Experience with Oracle XML DB - required
  • Experience with SAS, ArcGIS, or Endeca Information Access platform - plus but not required
  • Candidate must be able to quickly diagnose and debug technical challenges through reading code and supporting technical documentation.
  • Candidate should have very strong teamwork, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills, ability to work well independently and as part of the team.
  • Candidate should be able to work with analysts, business operations staff, data providers, developers and DBAs.
  • Candidate should have 5-10 years of progressive experience in the area of ETL program development and operations

 

Tools:

Erwin, Putty, Oracle client 10g, Rational ClearQuest/ClearCase, Quest Software TOAD, PL/SQL Developer, SAS, experience with Altova XMLSpy, Oxygen or similar tool

 

Programming Languages:

Java (Java APIs for XML), PL/SQL (XML DB packages), Korn shell, XML, XSLT, SAS (not required), Perl (plus but not required)

 

Work Environment: 

Must be prepared to occasionally work late on weekday evenings (1+ times week) and occasional weekends. Must be able to work independently with customers. Must have excellent verbal/written communication skills.

Industry Knowledge:

The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of: U.S. Census Bureau data, including demographic, economic, and geographic data.
